Biography
Oliver Castillo is a Peruvian bassist, composer and producer based in Lima, Peru. With over three decades of experience in music, he is best known as the bassist of Dmente Comun, a longstanding band in Peru's alternative rock scene. Throughout his career, he has also performed and collaborated with artists such as Tavo Castillo, Charlie Parra del Riego, Lobo Gris and Alejandro Susti, among others, exploring a wide range of musical styles and creative approaches.
Alongside his work with Dmente Comun, Castillo developed LABORATORIO, an instrumental music project built around experimentation and collaboration. With the bass as its central instrument, LABORATORIO brings together musicians from different backgrounds to explore progressive rock, experimental music, cinematic textures and a wide range of musical influences.
The project has evolved across three albums, each representing a different stage of its creative development.
LABORATORIO V01 (2020) introduced the concept through a series of collaborations built primarily around a trio format, establishing the project's exploratory and eclectic identity.
LABORATORIO V02 (2023) expanded the concept, incorporating more musicians into individual compositions, experimenting with multiple bass lines and exploring new musical directions.
LABORATORIO V03 (2026) completes the first trilogy, taking the collaborative approach further with more ambitious arrangements, unconventional musical combinations and a broader production style.
Rather than following a fixed genre or lineup, LABORATORIO is an evolving musical space where each collaboration opens the door to a different creative direction.
